Call to Order
The Meeting was called to order by Stacey Vandenberg at 9:40 a.m.
- An attendance sheet was passed around, along with an attendance log.
Attendance is charted by agency, not by a specific person attending to represent
that agency.
Approval of Minutes August 11, 2005
Motion to Approve minutes by Jane Drake and seconded by Terri Smith. Motion
Approved.
- Stacey informed the committee of the invitation by MSHDA for Muskegon to
participate in a Chronic Homeless Initiative. More information will be
available after attending the informative conference on October 26, 2005.
Those attending, as requested by MSHDA, are: CoC Chairs, County/City Rep.,
CoC Coordinator, Non-Profit, DHS, CMH.
- Stacey reported on the Memorandum of Understanding that is being
circulated and Jane confirmed its recent approval at the CCC.
- Stacey reminded the ESG and HUD recipients that they need to share their
reports with the Steering Committee per the original reporting memo and as a
requirement in the CoC Planning Process. Since we are behind schedule with
this, reports will be reviewed by all three agencies: WMT/TLC (ESG&HUD), EWP/WHYS
(ESG), BHM (ESG) at the December meeting. Reports just need to be reviewed
not passed out.
- Jane Drake and Stacey reported on the success of the Challenge Grant.
The Homeless Prevention Fund is growing and is over $20,000 to date. Special
thanks to Howmet/Alcoa for their support in this effort. Thank you letters
have been sent out by the Coordinator on behalf of the CoC to all donors.
Also special thanks to the Youth Advisory Council for their $6K donation.
- Committee Reports:
- Strategy and Planning: Not available
- PIT: Set for 10/17 and packets sent out to the COC membership
agencies by Coordinator. Training held and many participated in
September.
- HMIS: BHM, CMH and TLC to be live by the end of the month and
obtaining agreements from Sacred Suds, EWP/WHYS, Rescue Mission,
Veteran’s Center. Quarterly meetings held. Next quarterly meeting to be
in February 2006.
- HAW: Announced the dates of 11/13-11/19. Stacey will present at the
Rotary Club on 11/10 to kick off the week and WMT will donate a CoC
Website to be ready for review by the next meeting which will share all
information regarding the CoC for everyone’s review, participation and
need. It was asked that anyone holding an event during HAW to let Stacey
know so that it can go on the State Event Calendar. Rescue Mission
reported an Open House on 11/10/05 and discussed some barriers with the
Nelson Neighborhood. Sarah, a member of Nelson Neighborhood, suggested
that they meet to discuss solutions and better understanding of the
neighborhoods goals.
- Habitat for Humanity Director, Diana Miller, announced that Habitat
for Humanity application process is open.
- Phyllis reported a new employee – Denise Shyne for the Children
Homeless Fund with McKinney Vento funds – there is no tutoring in the
shelters.
- Emergency Needs: Jackie reported that there is a concern about
winter bills and the ENeeds committee is addressing this issue
diligently and is working with consumers to guide them though resources.
- Case Management: Not available, minutes being logged by Teri Smith.
CoC Plan Review of Goal Status at January 2006 meeting in preparation for Feb
CoC Plan 2006 submission.
Gaps Analysis through the Critical Needs format will be 12/8/05.
Shonda McPherson with Temple Cares for People made a presentation of their
program and Affordable Housing Program. She stated that they had recently
submitted a grant to MSHDA to support this program. For more information, please
